On the garden level, you will find our two toddler classrooms, two preschool classrooms, and learning center. On the first floor, you will find the John W. Knight Curiosity Lab, main office, Admissions office, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classrooms. Just upstairs you will find our two 3rd/4th grade classrooms, two 5th/6th grade classrooms, multimedia Sky Lounge, and art studio.
The "Dan": The Daniel Crewe Gymnasium is a multipurpose building that serves as the headquarters for the Breakwater Enrichment Center. Also used by Breakwater School during the day and for special events, this building features a basketball court, climbing wall, aerial dance rigging, classroom/ playroom, Spanish classroom, and a teaching kitchen!
The "Jessie": The Jessie Bullens-Crewe Building is a multipurpose building with a computer lab and auditorium. Our 7th and 8th grade classrooms and study areas are housed in this building in addition to some administrative offices. On Fridays, our all school community meetings are hosted in the auditorium and most K-8th grade music classes including middle school band and chorus take place in the Jessie.
Nason's Corner Park: A partnership between Breakwater, the City of Portland, the Nason’s Corner Neighborhood Association, and Portland Trails, our outdoor natural playground has structures built into and out of the earth including running hills, slides, climbing walls and tunnels. The park also encompasses sporting fields and an outdoor stage in addition to our toddler and preschool playgrounds. Nason’s Corner Park, is a public park owned by the City of Portland. The spaces are utilized by Breakwater during school hours and available to the entire community at all other times, contributing to a vital community connection to Portland.
Beyond campus: Breakwater takes advantage of our unique location in Portland by going on several local field trips during the course of the year in addition to further trips that take us deeper into Maine, New England, and beyond.
